First stop: Waterfalls.
Half of the fun of coming up to Grand Marais for the weekend is the drive up. The drive along the North Shore is gorgeous and there are plenty of places that you won’t want to miss on your way up. One being, the waterfalls. There are more than a dozen waterfalls that you can stop to see along the way. This article about waterfalls near Grand Marais and also includes a map of the others you can hit along the way. Bonus – they’ll serve as the perfect backdrop for a picture with your besties! Trust me, your Instagram feeds will thank you.
Once in Grand Marais: Check in at East Bay Suites.
After you’ve had your fill of waterfalls and have finally arrived in Grand Marais, check in at East Bay Suites. This will be the perfect opportunity to relax, refresh, get settled and share a bottle of wine on the patio or your private balcony overlooking Lake Superior.
After recharging: Dinner
There are many great places to eat in Grand Marais but one to note is Harbor House Grille. This local favorite is located in a former house (talk about hospitality!) and offers a variety of wood-fired pizzas, sandwiches and patio seating with views of Lake Superior.
Three words: World’s. Best. Donuts.
Yes, you read that correctly. Right across the way from East Bay Suites is where you can get donuts and coffee from none other than World’s Best Donuts. They truly are the best but unfortunately, they’re only available starting in May through the summer months. So if you’re staying with us during that time, we recommend grabbing some donuts and taking a walk to the picturesque Grand Marais lighthouse or to Artists Point.
And it wouldn’t be a girls weekend without: A Spa Day.
Take a short ride into Lutsen to have a spa day at the Woodlands Spa. Enjoy a relaxing massage or a rejuvenating body treatment. You’re on vacation, treat yourself. Afterwards, grab a bite to eat at Moguls Grille and Taproom.
And on your way back to Grand Marais, stop at the North Shore Winery for a selection of locally crafted wines and ciders.
If you prefer to stay in town check out Ancient Traditions Healing.
As for the evening: Stay In.
Take advantage of the full kitchens that East Bay has in their rooms and make a dinner with the girls! Did you forget the groceries? The Whole Foods Co-op is right next door.
End the evening by playing games and catching up over a growler from Voyageur Brewing.
All good things have to come to an end at some point, but don’t rush it.
Enjoy the sunrise over the lake, maybe take one last walk along the shore, pack up the car, grab a donut on the way out of town and reminisce on the drive home over all the memories you just made with your best friends.
