Dining in Grand Marais

Angry Trout Cafe

218-387-1265 ~ On the Harbor
Dine right on the harbor. The Trout is famous for fresh, fresh, fresh ingredients including locally produced foods. We like watching for the otter while we lunch on the wild rice salad, fish soup and fresh pasta.?Open lunch and dinner, seasonally.

Blue Water Cafe

218-387-1597 ~ Downtown
Grand Marais' diner. Two short blocks from the East Bay Suites and you're at the Blue Water. Slide into a booth for stack of 'cakes and hot coffee, hot ham and cheese with fries and a Coke, and the broasted chicken - all our favorites. Open breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Chez Jude

218-387-9113 ~ Highway 61
The local bistro. Contemporary cuisine, featuring the freshest offerings of the season, paired nicely with a hand-selected wine and beer menu. The wood-fired balsamic pizza and hanger steak tartine are excellent lunch choices while for dinner we like the Chef's tasting menu or summer vegetable tagliatelle. Inquire about seasonal dinners, afternoon tea and cooking classes.?Open lunch and dinner, seasonally.

Crooked Spoon

218-387-2779 ~ Downtown
Fresh food with a flair. Quality ingredients cooked with their own twist bring us back for the kobe beef burger, mac and cheese with a truffle crust, seared scallops with blood orange beurre blanc and to hear about the daily specials. Just one block from East Bay Suites, the Crooked Spoon has a great wine and beer selection. Open lunch and dinner.

Dockside Fish Market

218-387-2906 ~ Highway 61
Best fish 'n' chips in town! This is the local commercial fisherman's shop. They catch the herring and lake trout and smoke all the fish they sell [samples available!]. They round out their offerings with seafood, a nice selection of cheese and accoutrements. From the deli, we like the herring fish 'n' chips, and any of the chowders. They've got something for the non-fish lovers, too.?Open lunch and dinner, seasonally.

Gun Flint Tavern

218-387-1563 ~ Downtown
Downtown tavern & live music. Tasty, well-rounded eclectic menu plus a dozen micro-brews on tap, a full bar and a seasonal upstairs deck bar overlooking the harbor. The soups are always tasty and we're rather fond of the Reuben and the Hummus plate, but the Tamales and Bangers and Mash are good, too! Check the wall for daily specials and listing of the live entertainment provided weekends throughout the year plus special occasions and open mic nights.?Open lunch and dinner.

My Sister's Place

218-387-1915 ~ Highway 61
Our burger & pizza joint. Over twenty different ways to have a burger, plus a selection of hot dogs, sandwiches, appetizers and thin-crust wood-fired pizza and calzones. Some of us like the Goober Burger [mayo and peanut butter] and some of us like the Juicy Lucy [cheese inside] and we all like the House Special pizza with a glass of red wine or draft beer. Everyone gets a sucker if they clean their plate. Open lunch and dinner.

Sven & Ole's

218-387-1713 ~ Highway 61
Renowned pizza place. A short block from the East Bay Suites and the anchor of Grand Marais restaurants. These guys started out selling their mom's brownies to make money for college and have been feeding visitors and locals ever since. They've got pizzas, subs, salads, unbaked pizzas to take out, they offer delivery, appetizers, real ice cream treats and a full bar at the Pickle Herring Club. We're especially fond of the Uf-Dah 'Za [wild rice & Canadian bacon] and the Meat 'Za. Open lunch and dinner.
