To get to Grand Marais, just point your vehicle north on Interstate-35 from the Twin Cities for an easy drive up the most beautiful Minnesota Highway anywhere, Scenic Highway 61 - travel time: 4 hours and 40 minutes. 

About the resort:

Located on Lake Superior's North Shore with the Gunflint Trail and the world class Superior Hiking Trail. And because East Bay Suites is just steps from town, once you park at the resort your family can take in all the sights of this highly walkable area - from beaches to the charming shops and restaurants of Main Street. Complimentary passes to the local pool and gym are available at the front desk, along with bicycles to sign out and lots of friendly advice from experienced staff to help plan the perfect activities for your family.

Lodging:

The resort has 30 suites with full-kitchens, fireplaces and decks overlooking beautiful Lake Superior. In the evening, a lighted walkway leads you to the beach where bonfires and s'more-making await your family. Or enjoy the fireplace with its lake view in the Stone's Throw common area.

Meals:

One Grand Marais highlight is the many fine and varied restaurants in the area serving everything from pizza to upscale locavore cuisine. The local food co-op has everything a family needs for a picnic or to make up a feast in your condo's full kitchen. Also front desk staff will be happy to help make arrangements with a local vendor to have a meal catered and served in our causal gathering room or our meeting space.

Staying at East Bay Suites? You can check out bikes at Caribou Highlands Lodge Lutsen location and putter around mountain trails. Or visit Grand Superior Lodge and pedal to Gooseberry Falls Minnesota State Park where you can pick up the Gitche Gami on the paved bike trail. This program also includes kayaks, canoes or access to add-on packages such as sunset cruises or fishing trips. Families can split up for a day according to interests and meet up at night to tell tales around the bonfire.
