Find something a little different in Grand Marais. The shops are locally owned with selections to match the whim of the owner and their desire to showcase uncommon wares. Most of the shops are on the same street as East Bay Suites, the avenues that connect to Highway 61, and along Highway 61 with a few outlying shops. Nothing is more than a five minute drive and most is less than a five minute walk.

Only in Grand Marais

Joynes Ben Franklin This is our department store. Check it out. You’ll find an excellent line of quality shoes, games, toothpaste, the socks you forgot to pack, cards, books, classic souvenirs, and a fabulous kids section of paddle balls, whoopee cushions, bubbles, jacks and rubber snakes. Lake Superior Trading Post This is our other department store. Peruse gorgeous wool sweaters, leather handbags, engineered outerwear, imported home décor, uncommon jewelry, outdoor gear, and a fabulous book selection.

Fine Crafts

The Attic American pottery, wood crafts, jewelry, décor and treasures. The Blue Moose Fine crafts for your soul, your home and your garden.

Drury Lane The best little bookstore ever. It’s impossible to find only one book. Conveniently located across the street. Check the chalkboard for book signings, author talks and full moon readings.

Viking Hus Scandinavian imports. Yep, most of the settlers here were Norwegians and Swedes. This shop has a collection of fine items from the homelands. White Pine North Classic gift store. Coffee beans and chocolates, a sampling of gourmet foods, cards and gifts, kitchen wares and candles, jewelry and clothes – a gift shop!

Ahh..... ... See MoreSee Less

Last night and early this morning the northern lights put on a nice little display. If you have plans for leaf peeping on the North Shore this weekend, keep your eyes on the night sky. Chances are good for more aurora activity. 10/1/2015

Oh Oberg! ... See MoreSee Less

Sawtooth Mountains and distant Grand Marais, MN viewed from Oberg Mountain this evening. Lots of green and yellow on the lake side but the maples are looking great off to my left. The Oberg hike is almost prime for fall color viewing. I think I did this hike on September 26th last year and felt I was a day or two late for peak color. Things are running late this year. Fantastic sunset hike tonight. 9/30/2015
