Lutsen Mountains

Lutsen Mountains

Looking for some serious fun? A little adventure? Great panoramic views? A little exercise? Maybe lunch or a cool drink after? Lutsen Mountain’s summertime Sawtooth Mountain Park has it all. Spread across four mountains and over 1,000 acres, you’ll find an excellent variety of hiking trails, the Alpine Slide, the Mountain Tram and three dining choices.

Hiking Trails

Amble north up and over the Poplar River, hook up with the Superior Hiking Trail, traverse the maple ridgeline of Moose Mountain, or ride the tram to Moose Mountain for the summit loop or one of the more challenging spur trails. You make the choice – just remember your camera to capture the incredible views, waterfalls, wildflowers, and maybe, wildlife!

Alpine Slide

Thrill seeker or scenic tourist? It’s your choice on the Alpine Slide. You can leave that brake alone and go for the high speed, wind-in-your-hair ride, or take a leisurely tour down the hill taking in the sights. Everyone enjoys the chairlift ride to the top where you’ll find wide-open views of Lake Superior, Mystery and Moose Mountains. Hint – choose the multi-ride package because one ride is just never enough.

Mountain Tram

Put this down as a must-do on your trip up the North Shore. The treetop gondola ride glides down into the Poplar River Valley then climbs over the woodlands before the final ascent up the rocky face of Moose Mountain. Be sure to watch for deer in the woods! At the summit of Moose Mountain, you can photograph your way around the scenic summit loop, take a big hike, amble around the ski runs or sit on the deck of the Summit Chalet and soak up the sun and the Lake Superior views. The gondola ride is especially breathtaking during fall colors. Nervous about heights? Face the mountain on the way over and on the way back, too. Combo Alpine Slide / Mountain Tram ride tickets are available.

Where To Dine

The Summit Chalet atop Moose Mountain is open for breakfast, lunch, beverages and snacks all summer long, fall color weekends and through the ski season. Near the main chalet, where you board the gondola, Papa Charlie’s is open for dinner nightly and lunch seasonally. And just down the road south of the Alpine Slide, Mogul’s Grille and Tap Room is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, desserts, appetizers and beverages throughout the year. Moguls is at Caribou Highlands Lodge through the main lodge entry. Visit Caribou Highlands Website
