Dining in Grand Marais

Angry Trout Cafe

218-387-1265 ~ On the Harbor Dine right on the harbor. The Trout is famous for fresh, fresh, fresh ingredients including locally produced foods. We like watching for the otter while we lunch on the wild rice salad, fish soup and fresh pasta. Open lunch and dinner, seasonally. Beer and wine served as well. www.angrytroutcafe.com

Dining in Grand Marais

Blue Water Cafe

218-387-1597 ~ Downtown Grand Marais’ diner. Two short blocks from the East Bay Suites and you’re at the Blue Water. Slide into a booth for stack of ‘cakes and hot coffee, hot ham and cheese with fries and a Coke, and the broasted chicken – all our favorites. Open breakfast, lunch and dinner. www.bluewatercafe.com

Crooked Spoon

218-387-2779 ~ Downtown Fresh food with flair. Quality ingredients cooked with their own twist bring us back for the kobe beef burger, mac and cheese with a truffle crust, seared scallops with blood orange beurre blanc and to hear about the daily specials. Just one block from East Bay Suites, the Crooked Spoon has a great wine and beer selection. Open lunch and dinner.  www.crookedspooncafe.com

Dockside Fish Market

218-387-2906 ~ Highway 61 Best fish ‘n’ chips in town! This is the local commercial fisherman’s shop. They catch the herring and lake trout and smoke all the fish they sell [samples available!]. They round out their offerings with seafood, a nice selection of cheese and accoutrements. From the deli, we like the herring fish ‘n’ chips, and any of the chowders. They’ve got something for the non-fish lovers as well! Open lunch and dinner, seasonally.  Beer and wine served as well.   www.docksidefishmarket.com

Gun Flint Tavern

218-387-1563 ~ Downtown Drinks, food & live music. Tasty, well-rounded eclectic menu plus a dozen micro-brews on tap, a full bar and a seasonal upstairs deck bar overlooking the harbor. The soups are always tasty and we’re rather fond of the Reuben and the Hummus plate, but the Tamales and Bangers and Mash are good, too! Check the wall for daily specials and listing of the live entertainment provided weekends throughout the year plus special occasions and open mic nights. Open lunch and dinner. Beer, wine and hard liquor served.  www.gunflinttavern.com

Harbor House Grille

218-387-1889 ~ Hwy 61 Dine with us and you’ll see why our goal is to satisfy your every craving. Located across from the harbor is this cozy neighborhood restaurant serving up tasty handcrafted meals, using fresh & seasonal ingredients.  Chef and restaurant owner Ed Straub creates each dish on site & from scratch, using simple products while developing extraordinary flavor. Relax and enjoy a meal with us while overlooking the serene water of the biggest of the Great Lakes.  Beer, wine and spirits served as well.   www.harborhousegrille.com

Hughie’s Taco House

218-387-3382 ~ Downtown on Hwy 61 Don’t overlook our local taco joint with fresh homemade puff tortilla shells and a variety of items to pick from to toss in.  Beef taco? Check. Chicken taco? Check. Fish taco? Check. Sauerkraut taco?? Check! Beer served as well.

Java Moose

218-387-9400 ~ Downtown and on harbor Can anything be better then sipping a cup of hot coffee with an amazing view of the harbor?  How about paring that with a cup of hot soup, sandwich or a scone?  This coffee shop is a local favorite with an additional outside shop open by the harbor every summer.  Let us start your morning out right.

My Sister’s Place

218-387-1915 ~ Highway 61 Our burger & pizza joint. Over twenty different ways to have a burger, plus a selection of hot dogs, sandwiches, appetizers and thin-crust wood-fired pizza and calzones. Some of us like the Goober Burger [mayo and peanut butter] and some of us like the Juicy Lucy [cheese inside] and we all like the House Special pizza. Everyone gets a sucker if they clean their plate.   Open lunch and dinner.  Beer and wine served as well.  www.mysistersplacerestaurant.com

Sven & Ole’s

218-387-1713 ~ Downtown Renowned pizza place. A short block from the East Bay Suites and the anchor of Grand Marais restaurants. These guys started out selling their mom’s brownies to make money for college and have been feeding visitors and locals ever since. They’ve got pizzas, subs, salads, unbaked pizzas to take out, they offer delivery, appetizers, real ice cream treats and a full bar at the Pickle Herring Club. We’re especially fond of the Uf-Dah ‘Za [wild rice & Canadian bacon] and the Meat ‘Za. Open lunch and dinner. Beer, wine and hard liquor served as well.

Sydney’s Frozen Custard

218-387-2632 ~ Downtown  Not just creamy rich frozen custard anymore.  Bring an appetite and choose from the delicious and fresh gyros, stuffed pitas, hot dogs (with just about any topping) and now fire roasted pizza from the brick fire oven.  Enjoy on our rooftop seating area or on the beach with the wide open lake as your view.

The Pie Place

218-387-1513 ~ Downtown Pies, pies and more pies. Homemade meals served with a view of the harbor. While we like the french toast, the soups, the daily specials, it’s really the divine selection of pies that brings us back. Pick your favorite – we’re leaning toward the Peach Blackberry ala mode. Open breakfast, lunch and dinner.  www.thepieplacecafe.com

World’s Best Donuts

218-387-1346 ~ Downtown What makes you think of summer?  Around Grand Marais it is the fresh scent of cooking donuts from the Donut Shop since 1969.  Across the street from East Bay Suites you’ll smell the fresh daily made donuts cooking and understand why sometimes there is a line down the road just wanting to grab one of these nostalgic treats.  Fifteen types of freshly baked goods, from cake donuts to Roly Polies and of course the famous Skizzle.  Don’t wait to grab one they do sell out!   If you know what you want you can avoid the lines and jump to the Whiz up window to order.  www.worldsbestdonutsmn.com
