Winter Week of Snowshoeing and Cross Country Skiing
Volks Ski Fest is literally the people's ski celebration. In this case, the week-long event celebrates Nordic skiing and snowshoeing. The goal is to get everyone out skiing or 'shoeing. Novice skiers are given pointers and recommendations and even guided tours of serene woodland trails while accomplished skiers are encouraged to try new trails. And with over 400 kilometers of trails in the area, that's a lot of choice.
And then get off the trail and try snowshoeing, winter hiking. Bring or rent a pair of shoes and head into the woods, along summer hiking trails, up frozen rivers or on designated snowshoe trails. Observe animal tracks, explore a new area or sample different types of snowshoes on a guided snowshoe hike.
And A Little Bit More
To round out the week, a number of resorts offer dog sled rides, horse drawn sleigh rides, ski-joring [cross country skiing while harnessed to your dog], lit night skiing, ski and snowshoe clinics plus fireside chats and special meals.
