Event Details
Third weekend of June ~ North House Folk School, On the Harbor - Visit Website
What do you get when you combine a celebration of summer's arrival with a celebration of boat builders, sailors and travelers? The Wooden Boat Show and Summer Solstice Festival. It all takes place on the North House Folk School campus.
Harborside Wooden Boat Display
Folks from near and far bring their hand-hewn wooden boats to share their craft, learn new tricks of the trade, and display their boats for you to look at, touch and ask questions. From un-seaworthy to totally finished, it's a fascinating exhibit.
Boats-to-Tools Auction
Some of the boats are even for sale! Along with all kinds of crafts tools, wooden paddles, oars, and boat accessories, all donated and auctioned off throughout the weekend.
Summer Solstice Pageant
A whiz-bang puppet event created and performed by the local Good Harbor Hill Players takes place Saturday night. Dozens of men, women and children gather, brainstorm a show, craft puppets, props and music, and put together a wonderful amazing performance. Arrive early, this outdoor show packs them in!
Chowder Chowdown
Stop by North House and sample a bowl of chowder. Choose from locally produced specialties and see if your bowl was the winner at this tasty competition.
Traditional Crafts Demonstrations
Throughout the entire three-day weekend, North House hosts a variety of crafts people demonstrating their talents. This is a great sampling of the many and varied courses taught on campus.
