In The Heart of Grand Marais
Unplugged Music Festival, The Northern Harvest
Fourth weekend in September
"Wow!" is a common reaction to first-time attendees of the Unplugged concert. Wow, what incredible musicians. Wow, what an amazing, intimate concert. Wow, can you believe those big name performers gave a show in Grand Marais, in a tent. We agree, "wow" sums it up pretty well.
Music Performance hosted by Jon Vezner
Unplugged was created in part, and is hosted every year by internationally renowned songwriter Jon Vezner, who invites his fellow musicians to perform at this fundraiser for the North House Folk School endowment fund. The line-up changes each year, but always includes an Open House and Reception and 'On Stage' performance in the massive white tent spread from building to building on the lakeside campus. Tickets can be purchased in advance on North House's website.
Workshops, an Auction and More Music
North House rounds out the weekend with a wide array of courses, a Traditional Craft & Northern Hospitality Auction, the Northern Harvest Fish Boil [a Lake Superior tradition], workshops and seminars and a Friday Night Big Top Community Dance.
Spectacular Colors of Autumn
And when you're not attending a workshop or concert, the fall colors are absolutely gorgeous. Take a drive, a hike, a bike, even a sailboat ride aboard the Hjordis, to appreciate the stunning maple hillsides and golden birch.
